Blueberry Vanilla Bean Cider
Like many ciders, the Blueberry Vanilla Bean by True North Cider Co. has its own distinct taste, despite the fact that its main ingredient is, of course, apples. This 355 ml can from Camrose has a 6.5 per cent alcohol content and is made with 100 per cent Canadian apples, as well as blueberry juice and the pleasantly surprising addition of pure vanilla extract, which both balances out the sugary sweetness of apples and blueberries while also modifying the texture for a creamier finish. The custom apple blend ferments for at least six weeks before it’s sweetened with blueberry juice and aged with vanilla. After the cider is canned, pasteurized and conditioned for two to three days, it’s ready to be sold and sipped. You can find True North Cider Co.’s Blueberry Vanilla Bean at several liquor stores, restaurants and farmers’ markets across the province.
