Flower Petal Fashion

Janice Lutsenko has developed and honed her multidimensional art form for over 30 years. Her love of colour and fashion was inspired by her grandmother, a gifted seamstress to whom Lutsenko pays homage with the Flower Petal Fashion piece and the shapes of the flowers inspire her designs. From the start, Lutsenko controls the entire art-making process, choosing which flowers to plant; growing and harvesting them in her own garden; pressing and dyeing them; drawing the backdrops; to designing and creating the images while her husband mattes and frames the final product. After hand-dyeing the pressed flowers, Lutsenko sculpts them into 3D flower petal ladies in vintage and modern outfits and poses them against cityscapes or musical events. “This picture is an homage to my grandma, out on the farm, studying the magazines and sewing her versions. She lived rural all her life but designed for a city life.”
