Friceys Prairie Fruit Pops
Broken Tine Orchard is a fourth-generation 2,100-acre farm in northern Alberta that’s also a winery and haskap orchard with approximately 20,000 plants. The Alde family has farmed the area since 1926 and started harvesting haskap berries in 2011. In 2021, they started selling their 100-per cent real fruit Fricey Prairie Fruit pops — a delicious creamsicle made entirely with Alberta ingredients: haskap berries, sugar from Alberta’s sugar beets and vanilla ice cream from Foothills Creamery. This novelty cool treat not only champions local producers. It also highlights Alberta’s superfruit, the haskap berry. The pops are currently available direct from the Broken Tine U-Pick orchard in Beaverlodge and through some stores in Grande Prairie. While haskap is the only flavour available right now, the plan is to add other prairie fruits in coming years.
