Memorial Glass Keepsakes
Mandy Patchin started glassblowing in 2011 and made her first memorial keepsake when she lost her grandmother Dorothy in 2015. Each hand-blown glass keepsake has cremated ashes added so you can literally hold a tangible memory of your loved one in art form. Her team at Glass House Xperience has made thousands of these keepsakes for families across Canada and the U.S. in the form of ornaments, vases, spires, orbs, pendants, animal shapes and more. Patchin melts the clear raw glass at 1,200℃, then adds coloured glass shards along with the ashes, and then melts another clear layer of glass to encase it all. The texture and bubbles seen inside the glass are a result of hot glass coming into contact with the organic matter of the cremated remains. There are 24 different colour options and 25 different memorial glass keep-sakes to choose from.
